I hadn’t written a word in two weeks.

I sat at my computer, sipping my third cup of coffee I’d bet on once again to catapult me into an inspirational word frenzy.

But the words didn’t come. I just sat and stared at my computer screen.

I stared at the unexecuted pitches my editor had just approved.

I stared at the neglected pages of my the novel I’d been trying to finish.

I stared at at my unopened journal, teetering on the edge of my desk.

I bought into the ‘New Ageism’ idea of tricking your mind to see the future you want — & it’s working.

Like many others during the pandemic, I was laid off.

I felt hopeless, embarrassed, purposeless, directionless, and the list goes on.

I spent the days after the news licking my wounds and then just as I started to hunt for my next job, I realized how unhappy I was working in sales.

So, I granted myself permission to take some time to work towards my dream job… becoming a writer.

Mornings are my favorite time of day.

I take my time making my coffee, tie on my cozy bathrobe, and take a seat at my desk…my dog curled up at my feet.

This year I relished in my mornings reading the news.
